Celebrities line the red carpet, revealing one mega-watt smile after another for pictures. Their teeth seem to shine just as bright as the cameras in front of them. So what’s their secret? In a lot of cases, dental veneers are what give celebrities their million-dollar smiles. Superstars like Demi Moore, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, and Nicolas Cage have transformed their smiles with dental veneers.
The good news is that you don’t have to be a celebrity to take advantage of dental veneers. At Sierra Dental Care, Dr. Glenn Takenaga and our experienced staff can use veneers to transform your smile into one worthy of a red a carpet.
What Are Dental Veneers?
A dental veneer is a thin piece of porcelain secured to the front of a tooth to cover flaws and improve the appearance of your teeth.
Dental veneers are customized to match the rest of your natural teeth to give you the most natural-looking smile possible. Most commonly, veneers are used to correct chipped or cracked teeth, misshapen teeth, or stained teeth. They even work as a great way to hide deep medical staining that traditional teeth whitening solutions can’t fix.
We offer high-quality, thin Lumineers at our Modesto, CA office. With Lumineers, we don’t have to remove as much enamel from your natural teeth as we would have to with traditional porcelain veneers.
In most cases, Lumineers take less time to put in place and don’t require anesthesia. That’s good news for you if you’re looking to spend less time in the dentist chair!
How Do I Get Dental Veneers?
If dental veneers sound like a good option for you, the first thing you’ll need to do is set up a consultation so we can take a closer look at your mouth. During your consultation, we’ll discuss dental veneers with you to make sure they will give you the results you’re looking for.
We might take X-rays or impressions of your mouth.
When everything is ready to go, we will start by preparing your teeth for the veneers. That involves removing a small amount of enamel from the surface of your tooth to make room for the veneers.
If necessary, we can use a local anesthetic to numb the area, so you don’t feel a thing. Once we’ve prepped your teeth for the veneers, we will take an impression to send to the lab that will make your veneers. If necessary, we can send you home with temporary dental veneers until your permanent ones are ready to be placed.
In 2-4 weeks you will return to our office to have the veneers bonded to your teeth. We will first make sure the veneers match the fit and color you’re looking for and trim the veneer as needed. When they’re ready to be bonded, we will clean, polish, and etch your tooth. Then we’ll apply dental cement to the veneer and place the veneer on your tooth. Once the veneer is in the right place, we’ll use a special light to activate the chemicals in the cement, causing it to harden quickly.
We’ll make any final adjustments if needed and evaluate your new smile. More than likely we’ll want to see you again in a couple of weeks to make sure everything looks great, is working smoothly, and that no negative reactions have occurred. With proper care, you can expect your veneers to last between 7 and 15 years.
